Holiday Cactus

Howdy, I'm excited to share a picture of my Holiday Cactus that is in full bloom.  I have never had one to live less more bloom so see why I'm excited...........
Michelle gave me 2 of these beauties last year for Christmas, this one is yellow and the other one not yet blooming is Lavender.
Most bloom around Thanksgiving and Christmas,  mine, Halloween go figure.  Thanks for taking time to go look.
I go in the morning and have Carpal Tunnel surgery done on my right hand, so I may not be around for a couple days, bare with me and keep me in your prayers.  It hurts to type so hopefully I will be dropping by your blogs more after I get this fixed LOL!!!!

There is a trick to getting these to bloom when you want them too. For some reason when they are brought inside for the winter they start blooming. My grandmother used to keep her's in the basement until just before Thanksgiving and Christmas. She would water them while they were down there but when she brought them upstairs into the light they began to bloom. It has something to do with the changing light. I probably need to google this so I know more.

Mine bloom at Halloween also...I don't have anywhere to put them away in a dark place so I just let them bloom away. Mine are pink and red. I've never seen a yellow one...that is gorgeous! Good luck with the surgery...I know it is painful. Will say a prayer for you, girl!

I have never seen a yellow Christmas Catcus. I have a hot pink one and it starts blooming right before Thanksgiving. You have to let them dry out before each watering. I'll say a prayer for you and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Had no idea you were facing surgery! Hope it goes well, and I want reports. I think I am going to need it also. Your plants are lovely. Mine has not been blooming so I sent it up to visit Dee. Figured the Jersey light might give it a boost.

Your cacti are beautiful Olga. My mother always kept hers in a window with little direct sunshine, and she always forgot to water it. It bloomed every year during the holidays for decades. Maybe they don't like too much care?

You are in my thoughts and prayers. I hope your surgery goes well.

Hi, Olga! I'm so sorry you need CTS surgery and hope your recovery is quick and painless. I had both my hands done at the same time nearly 20 years ago, and am so glad it was over at one time! Hopefully you'll enjoy pain-free crafting and typing after the healing. I will miss seeing your artwork.

In the meantime, I am envious of your cactus. That rich golden ivory color is something I've been searching for. Just gorgeous! I have a Holiday Cactus massacre every March, pruning back the old ones and then taking the cuttings to make new pots for friends and family as gifts. Here are a few photos from last Christmas: http://creativesmiles2.blogspot.com/2012/12/christmas-cactus-masacre.html

Too funny about yours blooming for Halloween, but in the ivory color, it may be that your plant is playing a "ghostly" trick on you.

Please let us know how your surgery goes! Praying for an entirely successful procedure, and a speedy recovery without complications. (((hugs))) de

Hi Olga,

Hope your surgery went well and you are on the fast tract....healing!

CHRISTMAS CACTUS: If you feed it an all around flower fertilizer I had some that worked a miracle and bloomed twice! Once in the fall and again around Christmas. It is the one that comes in small round "beads" and I didn't feed it until after the first bloom......WOW double the blooms. Always remember fertilizer for your house plants ladies and God bless your happy plants.
